TEH: 13 Haunted Beers – Otherworld X Sunken Knave – Lamprey (6.2% ABV)

The nights are drawing in, the air is turning crisp, and somewhere in the shadows… the beers are getting stranger.

Welcome back, brave drinkers, to the Eternal Hoptimists’ Spook-o-ween Special, our annual descent into the cellar where 13 haunted brews await. Each one cursed with mystery, mischief, and maybe even a little magic. From ghostly pales to monstrous stouts, we’re once again lighting the lantern to uncover what goes burp in the night…

Tonight, our fearless reviewer Sam takes the lantern in hand, ready to face whatever lurks within the next can…

1. Name : Lamprey (6.2% ABV)

2. Brewery: Otherworld Brewing X Sunken Knave

3. Hops :  N/A

4. Grain : Chevalier Malt

5. Aroma : Strong malty scent with a little hoppy support.

6. Appearance :  A reddish golden colour with slight white head when poured

7. Body : Medium bodied with a good level of carbonation with good head retention

8. Taste: Upfront it has a smokey molasses meets caramel taste, with a bitter hoppiness towards the end. Weirdly it reminded me of Toffee Apples and Brandysnap ( which you would get at Hull fair)

This for me was a cracking example of traditional meets craft. it was a very enjoyable drink, and as a bonus it triggered a core memory of Hull fair eating toffee apples, and contemplating if going on the Waltzers is a good idea now.. or later?

I have never had a 1880 Historical Pale Ale before, but I would definitely have another!

Sam’s Jack ‘O Rating is: 3.7/ 5.0

The glass lies empty… yet something stirs. From the shadows of the cellar, a hiss escapes, and the promise of another cursed brew claws its way closer. Tomorrow, we open the next chapter in our tale of 13 Haunted Beers. Lock your doors, ready your glasses — the horror is only just beginning…
