Hi there fellow beer lovers,
Welcome back to the Eternal Hoptimist, Today we are continuing to sample the beers produced in our home city Hull, by the microbrewer Bricknell Brewery. If you somehow missed our insightful interview with the head brewer you can check that out here.
Today we are checking out Bricknell’s Bosphorous 1875, this review was produced by John following his visit with Peter to the Bricknell Brewery.

- Name : Bosphorous 1875
- Brewery: Bricknell Brewery
- Aroma : Slight hint of citrus followed by the sweet tang of hops.
- Appearance : Dark ruby colour with a thin head.
- Body : Medium bodied great mouth feel but poor head retention.
- Taste : This one isnt as punchy as the Cannon Street Porter, but there is beauty in its simplicity! I really enjoyed it, it has a slight sweetness to it, and it really shows off the brewers mastery of balancing the hops and malt.
Sometimes you don’t want a super punchy beer, and in those times you definitely want a beer like Bosphorous 1875. The sweetness brought out by the malts was just right to itch that spot other beers can’t quite reach.
I will say though that I could definitely drink a few of these but think the strength would definitely catch up with me without me realizing it.
our overall rating: 4.0/ 5.0
