Hi there fellow beer lovers,
Welcome back to the Eternal Hoptimist, Today we are continuing to sample the beers produced in our home city Hull, by the microbrewer Bricknell Brewery. If you somehow missed our insightful interview with the head brewer you can check that out here.
Today we are checking out Bricknell’s Lodona 1862, this review was produced by John following his visit with Peter to the Bricknell Brewery.
Lodona 1862, is another beer from Bricknell’s Nautical History series. The USS Lodona (1862) was a British steamship of the same name captured by the Union Navy during the American Civil War. She had been built in England for shipowner Zachariah Pearson and attempted to break the United States’ blockade of Confederate ports. USS Lodona was used by the Navy to patrol waters off those ports. After the war, she returned to commercial ownership

- Name : Lodona 1862
- Brewery: Bricknell Brewery
- Aroma : Strong citrusy notes followed by a mellow hoppyness.
- Appearance : Pale in colour with a healthy tight white head
- Body : Medium bodied, very good carbonation, and great head retention.
- Taste : Hint of citrs brought out by the Citra hops which is quickly followed by a punchy hoppy kick.
This is the best one of the pales that I have had so far from Bricknell Brewery. It had the right level of citrus and dry hops which hits that sweet spot that makes your mouth pucker. It was a little dry on the tongue but other than that it’s a top-notch tipple.
our overall rating: 3.9/ 5.0
