Hi there fellow beer lovers,
Welcome back to the Eternal Hoptimists, today we are continuing our whirlwind look at what Tartatus Beer’s have to offer. If you missed out on our awesome interview with the folks at Tartarus, fear not you can check that out here. But, for now, we’re here for the beer!
(and to look at that bottle art, I mean come on it’s stunning!)
In Greek mythology, Achilles or Achilleus is a fabled ancient greek hero. He was the greatest of all the Greek warriors, and is the central character of Homer’s Iliad.
Tartarus, have created this Saison in homage to the mighty warrior, by combining red grapes and Nelson Sauvin hops which give it a particularly strong wine-like flavour.

- Name: Achilles, Red Grape Imperial Saison
- Brewery: Tartarus Beers
- Aroma : Sweet barley and hop aroma
- Appearance : Reddish brown in colour, with a medium open head.
- Body : medium bodied, well carbonated, great head retention, and again full in the mouth.
- Taste : Strong wine influence, light with a sweet hint, but a dry finish
This one is definitely a sipper and not a gulper. However, even with the powerful alcoholic kick it was a lot lighter than I was expecting, and the kick lessens the more you drink. It was an all around, well rounded, winey tipple, and a fantastic one to sit by a fire reading about Greek legends of old.
If you would like to try this one yourself, you can pick one up at their website here
