Tartarus Beers – Roeschaard Plum Belgian Dubbel (7.5% ABV)

Hi there fellow beer lovers,

Welcome back to the Eternal Hoptimists, today we are continuing our whirlwind look at what Tartatus Beer’s have to offer. If you missed out on our awesome interview with the folks at Tartarus, fear not you can check that out here. But, for now, we’re here for the beer!
(and to look at that bottle art, I mean come on it’s stunning!)

“In 1791 a huge storm hit Blankenberge. It destroyed the hut of a suspected witch and the inhabitants of Blankenberge took joy in smashing up the rest of the hut. Over the dunes they heard a spine-chilling cry “roe, roe, roe” as a black dog with bells around its neck came charging over the dunes and down towards the villagers. Roeschaard is a shape shifter and has no limits to what he can shape shift into. Using his powers he causes mischief and strife to the sailors of Blankenberge…”

This classic Belgian style dubbel with added plum sounds like a serious beer to contend with. This is a bottle conditioned beer.

  1. Name : Roeschaard Plum Belgian Dubbel
  2. Brewery: Tartarus Beers
  3. Aroma : Distinctly yeasty aroma with some fruitiness
  4. Appearance : Orange brown with a dark cream head and quite cloudy
  5. Body :  Full bodied, well carbonated with a little head retention
  6. Taste : Dry, tangy with a strong lingering after taste. Some plum flavour coming through and some tartness.

Despite careful handling and leaving to settle for over a week this one was distinctly cloudy, and the yeast imparted on the flavour of the beer. Sadly, it must have been disturbed too much on the journey from Leeds.

One to try again in the future.

Our overall rating: 3.3/ 5.0
