Tartarus Beers – Abaddon, Russian Imperial Stout (ABV 17.0%)

Hi there fellow beer lovers,

Welcome back to the Eternal Hoptimists, today we are continuing our whirlwind look at what Tartatus Beer’s have to offer. If you missed out on our awesome interview with the folks at Tartarus, fear not you can check that out here. But, for now, we’re here for the beer!
(and to look at that bottle art, I mean come on it’s stunning!)

Abaddon is an entity that is open of interpretation in some texts he is a demon, and angel of the abyss, some say he is the antichrist, or even Satan himself. Others say he is a demon so powerful that even Satan wouldn’t challenge him.

All I know is he is one scary Russian, at 17%!!

  1. Name: Abaddon, Russian Imperial Stout
  2. Brewery: Tartarus Beers
  3. Aroma : Strong scent of strong roasted coffee with a light berry-like scent.
  4. Appearance : Really dark with a touch of red, no head
  5. Body :  Medium bodied, good carbonation, no head, very smooth mouthfeel
  6. Taste :  A true smorgasbord of flavours, Strong upfront alcohol punch, followed by a deep smooth roasted coffee that morphs into a light raspberry and chocolate finish.

This one was one was a very dark, very powerful tipple. The strong initial hit dulls after about half a pint in, making it surprisingly easy drinking. 17% is obviously not a session ale, but I can see why people may try to have more than one.

In short, its very dark, very dangerous, its the kind of beer you wouldn’t introduce to your mother but you would drunkenly tell your dad about!!

If you would like to pick up one of these to try yourself, you can acquire them on their website here
