Hi there fellow beer lovers,
I now seem to be the Hoptimist on lager review duties these days and there are a few more to come.
This is an interesting collaboration brew between Brewdog and La Superbe who are French craft brewers based in Anglet in the French portion of the Basque region. It was part of the monthly Brewdog subscription box and there are some interesting notes in the accompanying booklet. Apparently black/dark lagers are becoming a popular style so purely in the interests of research here we go

- Name : Zakur
- Brewery: Brewdog plc in collaboration with La Superbe Brew Co
- Aroma : A light quite floral aroma, sweet with hints of muskiness like lilies
- Appearance : A dark reddish brown hue when held to the light, almost black, clear, with cream coloured head
- Body : Well bodied for a lager, good carbonation but with little head retention
- Taste : Crisp and fresh like a lager but with rich roasty notes and a bitter-sweet finish
Frankly I wasn’t sure what to expect with this beer but was in for a pleasant surprise. The Czech lager style is clearly there but with added levels of interest for those used to more complex beers. Perhaps not as refreshing as a traditional lager but very enjoyable and I style I intend to investigate further.
