Hi there fellow beer lovers,
As chief lager tester I get to sample this collaboration beer which according to the label “We’ve taken our traditional black lager and aged it in Scottish Whisky barrels to produce a smooth complex beer that has wonderful hints of coffee and chocolate and is beautifully crisp and unrecognisably 2.8%.” A bold claim but can it be backed up with the taste test?

- Name : Whisky Barrel Aged Black Lager
- Brewery: SIWC, London
- Hops : Saaz and Tettnang
- Grain : Pilsen, Munich, Carafa Special III, Caramalt and Chocolate malts
- Aroma : Lightly roasted malt and some coffee
- Appearance : Black and seemingly clear with a brownish cream coloured head
- Body : Thin, well carbonated but with poor head retention
- Taste : Hints of coffee, crisp but with a sour tang. Didn’t really detect the promised coffee
A meek and mild beer by strength but does deliver some interesting flavours. A good effort for the ABV but not really my kind of beer.
Our overall rating: 3.6/ 5.0
