Hi there fellow beer lovers,
This is one of a series of ‘full-bodied yet easy-drinking milk stouts’ stated the can. Salted caramel flavoured deserts are very popular but will it work in a stout?
Being a milk stout, it has milk sugars (lactose) added during the brewing process. I must confess that haven’t tried many milk stouts after trying Mackeson (yes, they still brew it) after the social club run out of Guinness many years ago. Not something I will repeat as it was far too sweet for my palate.

- Name : Dexter
- Brewery: Kirkstall Brewery, Leeds
- Hops : Not specified
- Grain : Malted barley, wheat and oats
- Aroma : Sweet, malty with heavy toffee/caramel aroma making way for a hint of coffee
- Appearance : Jet black with a cream coloured head
- Body : Full bodied, medium carbonation with limited head retention
- Taste : A strong caramel taste at the beginning, but not over sweet, with a touch of vanilla creaminess. Dry finish with a slightly bitter aftertaste.
A beautifully judged beer with a good balance of sweetness and toffee flavours. A beer that makes you want a second and at 5.5% what is stopping you? Thumbs up from this reviewer.
