Hello My fellow beer drinkers,
Welcome back to The Eternal Hoptimists! As you may know earlier this week we had a sit down chat with the lovely Emma & Olly from Merakai Brewing co and if you want to check out what they had to say in our meet the brewers interview here
This week we will be sampling a number of Merakai’s beers so do keep your eyes open over the coming week, first out the gate of course is Peters review of Drinking Cos My Mouth Is Lonely 2. So lets get to the tasting!
I love stouts but sometimes they can be a little too sweet for me. This one being a marshmallow milk stout sounds interesting if the sweetness isn’t overpowering.
The can art is fun and this one is Emma’s beer ‘indulgent, light and easy drinking. A twist on a classic style. Velvet smooth with a delicious sweetness.’

- Name : Drinking cos My Mouth is Lonely 2
- Brewery: Merakai Brewing Co, East Sussex
- Hops : Cascade, Columbus and East Kent Goldings
- Grain : Malted barley and oats
- Aroma : Sweet, chocolaty with hints of vanilla
- Appearance : Black, with a brown head
- Body : Full bodied, medium carbonation with some head retention
- Taste : Initially a dark chocolate bitterness makes way for creamy sweetness from the vanilla, but not overdone. A true milk stout with a lovely soft mouthfeel
A perfectly judged beer with the balance of flavours just right. Too much vanilla can take over, but it’s used as a perfect counterbalance to the bitter chocolate flavours. Complex and dangerously drinkable and at 5.8% it would be a shame to stop at just the one.
Our overall rating: 4.1/ 5.0
