Hello My fellow beer drinkers,
Welcome back to The Eternal Hoptimists! As you may know earlier this week we had a sit down chat with the lovely Emma & Olly from Merakai Brewing co and if you want to check out what they had to say in our meet the brewers interview here
Today, today we are looking at something a little different. We are looking at two stand-alone beers by Merakai Brewing: Fusion State, and Got to Dance… which when blended together create an even stronger top tipple, Fusion Dance but what are there power levels?…But there is only one way to find out!..

Name : Got To Dance (6.2% ABV)
Brewery: Merakai Brewing Co
Hops : Mosaic, Idaho 7
Grain : Barley, Oats & Wheat
Aroma : Sweet scent of Grapefruit, followed by a delicious Hobnobby scent.
Appearance : Straw Yellow, Slight Haze, thin tight white head
Body : Medium bodied, well carbonated with a good head retention with a smooth mouth feel.
Taste : Mellow fruitiness followed by a soothing smooth lactose rush finishing with a biscuit-y bite.
This was a surprise for me, I was not expecting it to be quite as lactose heavy but it was delicious! I had to really hold myself back from not drinking all of this one so that I could blend the two together!

Name : Fusion State (6.5% ABV)
Brewery: Merakai Brewing Co
Hops : Citra, Rakau, & Spectrum Citra
Grain : Barley & Wheat
Aroma : Strong hit of Hop, with some citrusy notes.
Appearance : Hazy Manuka honey, with a tight white head
Body : Full bodied, well carbonated, with fantastic head retention
Taste : Mouth-watering grapefruit and various citrus flavours followed by a slightly drying hoppy finish.
This one was in direct contrast to got to dance, this one was a lot fruitier and more traditional, and had a more attractive base colour. I would definitely have this one again, but I feel that its slightly ‘weaker’ than its counterpart.

Name : Fusion Dance ( 6.2% ABV)
Brewery: Merakai Brewing Co
Hops : Mosaic, Idaho 7, Citra, Rakau, & Spectrum Citra
Grain : Barley, Oats & Wheat
Aroma : Mellow hints of Citrus, Creamy hops with a slight Hobnob-iness
Appearance : Cloudy Apple Juice in colour with a tight white head.
Body : Full Bodied, Well carbonated, with good head retention.
Taste : Godly! A mouth watering, slightly fruity lactose explosion that mellows to an Oaty/Biscuit-y finish that makes you go back for more.
Clearly this one has spent a lot of time in the hyperbolic-time chamber, it is fantastic! Full bodied, and packs a flavourful punch. I have never had a beer that is made to be blended before. At least, not in the sense that you have two separate cans of beer that you can choose to combine (Black & Tan doesn’t count) but if this is your typical result I hope that there will be more beers like this in future.
