Who would drink a Christmas special beer in the garden on a blazing July afternoon? Me of course! This one was brought by a friend, Mark who will be helping with a few guest reviews, and we sampled a few and had a good catch up.
This special ale is brewed as a classic strong Scotch Ale (otherwise known as Wee Heavy) with the addition of heather flowers.

- Name : Yule
- Brewery: Thornbridge, Bakewell, Derbyshire
- Hops : Fuggles
- Grain : Malted barley and wheat
- Aroma : Dried fruits, figs and dates and some sweetness
- Appearance : Rich dark chestnut, produced a frothy creamy brown head
- Body : Full bodied, medium carbonation but head retention was poor
- Taste : A dark treacle sweetness but with a slightly burned edge. Rich mouth feel with Christmas pudding fruit and spices prominent and a boozy warmth
A flavour packed and complex beer that remains true to its intended style. The heather flavouring was too subtle for my palate. Potent but at the same time deceptively easy drinking for the strength this is one beer I will definitely be looking out for again.
