Hi there fellow beer lovers,
Today we are taking a closer look at another another beer from our Beer52 experiment.
The label states that Great Central beers are brewed under the German purity law (Reinheitsgebot) using hand-picked German hops. Only using malt, hops water a yeast to brew beer the traditional way is to be applauded. “Complex flavours emerge from these four main ingredients alone” is the claim but will it be supported by the taste test.

- Name : Helles Lager
- Brewery: Great Central Brewing Company, Chicago, USA
- Hops : ‘German hops’ otherwise not specified
- Grain : Malted barley
- Aroma : Quite citrusy but with some delicate floral notes
- Appearance : Pale straw, slightly hazy with an effervescent pour but no real head
- Body : Medium bodied, medium carbonation but no head retention
- Taste : Malty and slightly sweet start, smooth on the palate with a touch of bitter on the finish
A nice but not outstanding beer, one I would drink again but not look out special. This may be a beer that is better enjoyed fresh.
Our overall rating: 3.4/ 5.0
