Here at The Eternal Hoptimists we like to review a wide range of beer styles and strengths from IPA’S to Sours to Imperial Stouts to Low Alcohol/Alcohol Free. In this review we take a look at an alcohol free (0.0% abv) beer that is gaining immense popularity, the beer in question is Guinness Draught 0.0 Alcohol Free Stout.
Is it worthy of the hype, or just another low alcohol/alcohol free beer that is best left on the shelf?

1. Name : Guinness Draught 0.0
2. Brewery: Guinness & CO
3. Hops : Not specified
4. Grain : Barley & Malt
5. Aroma : Slight roasted malt with the familiar Guinness bitterness
6. Appearance : In a side by side comparison there is hardly any noticeable difference between this & the regular 4.1% abv Guinness. Same black beer with equal sized head which lingers well throughout.
7. Body : Thin body which for alcohol free is to be expected.
8. Taste : Less roasty & creamy than regular Guinness with the bitterness coming more to the fore.
I purposely opened a can of regular Guinness alongside of this to try to have a side-by-side comparison. Firstly, I have to say that it looks very impressive in the glass with hardly any difference, in the taste however you can tell them apart with the 0.0 having a much more bitter flavour and obvious thinner body.
Personally, I don’t think I could session on the 0.0 like I could with a regular Guinness but I wouldn’t be against having one of these every now and again, or if I am having a session on the black stuff would be more than happy with one of these in my glass mid-way to act as a breaker drink. This is a real strength of this beer as it would prove to be a decent alternative for people like me whereas those who are cutting back or are designated drivers would probably be happy with a few of these unlike many other low alcohol/alcohol free beers which can be rather meh.
At present this beer isn’t always the easiest to obtain in supermarkets as it seems to sell out rather quickly and honestly, I can see why. As an alcohol free alternative to the regular Guinness one cannot fail to be impressed…..Good effort from the brewing team, well worth checking out!
