Northern Monk Holy Faith (0.5% ABV)

What was it that George Michael once said….Yes that’s right, You’ve gotta have Faith. So as soon as I saw that Northern Monk had brewed an alcohol free version of their classic beer Faith I thought to myself, I’ve gotta have that.

The beer is named Holy Faith and comes in at 0.5% but the question is whether this is one alcohol free beer that should be on everyone’s shopping list or is it no more than a gimmick to cash in on the excellent Faith series of beers?

1. Name : Holy Faith
2. Brewery: Northern Monk, Leeds
3. Hops :  Cryo Citra and El Dorado
4. Grain :  Barley and oats
5. Aroma : Has a tremendous punchy and zesty hop aroma
6. Appearance : Hazy, light straw colour with a fluffy white head which dissipates
7. Body : Light to medium body with an easy drinking mouthfeel
8. Taste : Full on zesty hop flavour which leaves a lovely lingering bitterness on the pallet

It is fair to say that the beer looks fabulous in the glass and has an impressive aroma that leads you into thinking that you are going to be experiencing a quality brew. I am not going to mess about when it comes to the taste as the first word that sprang to mind as it hit my pallet was wow!

The Cryo Citra and El Dorado hop combination in this is just tremendous, it has such a pleasant flavour profile and an incredibly nice lingering hop bitterness that it just made me want more and more. In fact, the quality of this is so good that if it was presented to me in a blind taste test, I would struggle to guess that it was an alcohol free beer.

I can only say hats off to Northern Monk as this is pretty special, and in all honesty could easily be the best alcohol free beer that I have ever tasted, it’s that good! Yes, George Michael I’ve certainly gotta have Holy Faith, again and again, if you try it, you probably will too……Tremendous stuff!
