Hello, and welcome back to the Eternal Hoptimists,
I am pretty certain that a very high percentage of beer drinkers has heard of Adnams classic pale ale Ghost Ship and that quite a lot of those have indeed tried it. In this review we take a look at the alcohol free version to see if it can hold its own amongst the increasing volume of alcohol free beers.

1. Name : Ghost Ship 0.5%
2. Brewery: Adnams, Southwold
3. Hops: Citra
4. Grain: Barley, malt and rye
5. Aroma : Pleasant citrus aroma coming from the use of the citra hop
6. Appearance: Pale/light amber with little head retention
7. Body: Light body with an easy drinking mouthfeel
8. Taste: Pleasant citrus taste with light malts and mild bitterness to finish
Adnams Ghost Ship 0.5% is a decent effort in the alcohol free market and one that I would describe as solid rather than spectacular. It is certainly a very drinkable alcohol free alternative to the original Ghost Ship and an added bonus is that it is widely available in many supermarkets.
The beer itself pours nice and looks the part, it has a pleasant citrus aroma which will certainly please fans of Ghost Ship. Taste wise this has a decent citrus flavour with a subtle citra hop profile leaving a lasting mild bitterness on the pallet.
Overall I would say that it is a pleasant enough beer although it will not be one that I look to pick up regularly. However for those cutting back or who are thinking of giving up alcohol altogether, it is a beer worthy of consideration.
Our overall rating: 3.3/ 5.0
