Hi there fellow beer lovers,
Welcome back to the Eternal Hoptimists Spooktakular Halloween lead-up special.
Want a beer to sell well around Halloween? Well, there’re a few things you can do to add appeal. You can brew it to come in at an ABV of 6.66%, the number of the beast in the Book of Revelation. Modern can wraps allow for great artwork to be displayed, in this case demonic skeletons preparing for battle. Add a painful pun (we love those) on a famous prophetic phrase and you could well be on to a winner. All three can be found here.
This one is brewed with ‘a incredible amount of cherry juice’ (sic) so promises to be something special.

- Name : For Whom Dubbel Tolls
- Brewery: Twice Brewed Brewing Co, Hadrian’s Wall, Northumberland
- Hops : Saaz
- Grain : Barley and wheat
- Aroma : Mainly sour cherry and little malt
- Appearance : Very dark red/brown with some light bleed when held to a light, hazy with a pink tinged head
- Body : Full bodied, well carbonated with some head retention
- Taste : Malty but with the sweetness tempered by the sourness of the cherry. The underlying brown ale is there but there is a slightly sour tang to the finish
An excellent strong brown ale style dubbel beer. Brown ale seems to be an unloved style in the UK in recent years which I feel is a great shame as it’s a great beer when well made. More used to drinking cherry beer as a kriek this made for an interesting change. Certainly, one I would try again.
Our overall Jack O Rating is: 3.8/ 5.0
