Hello, and welcome back to the Eternal Hoptimists,
In this review we take a look at a recent Beer 52 purchase from Avaans contract brewery based in Edinburgh in the form of their heavily hopped Kviek Ipa.
This is the first beer that I have had from this brewery but being somewhat of a Kviek IPA fan and looking at the fascinating hop combo I must admit that I was quite excited to crack open the can and poor it into my glass. Will this excitement continue as I drank? Read on to find out.
.

Name : Kviek IPA
2. Brewery: Avaans, Edinburgh, Scotland
3. Hops : Citra, sabro, simcoe & columbus
4. Grain : Barley, oats, wheat & rye
5. Aroma : Juicy, punchy hop aromas with the different hop varieties identifiable
6. Appearance : Hazy, straw-coloured with one finger white head
7. Body : Very soft with a medium mouthfeel
8. Taste : Soft, juicy & tropical with a very pleasant punchy hop aftertaste
There have been several occasions where I have had beers contract brewed for online beer subscription stores that have turned out to be rather disappointing, however this one has proven to be far from that.
The hazy, straw-coloured liquid in the glass is very appealing to the eye and aromas prove to be equally as appealing on the nose giving off a lovely tropical, juicy smell which if you inhale for long enough gives off smells of all hops present.
Taste wise is also impressive with juicy, soft, punchy hop flavours which push themselves around the mouth leaving a really pleasant aftertaste. This is helped along with the addition of oats and Kviek yeast which adds more characteristics to a beer that already has a lot going on.
Avaans is the Flemish word for progress and after drinking this I hope that this is a sign that things are progressing well within the online beer subscription stores as it is certainly one of the better contract brewed beers that I have had from Beer 52…..Good effort!
