Welcome back to the Eternal Hoptimist’s,
Of the Turning Point 12 beers of Christmas for 2022 this was the one I wanted to get my hands on, looking at the tasting notes it promises to be a very special beer. It is part of the Singularity Series (#005) of small batch, one-off release, from their barrel store. Aged in rum barrels and including Cloud Gate coffee, brown sugar, and cocoa powder in the brewing process, now doesn’t that promise something special!
Serving suggestion on the can; serve in a martini glass for maximum pomposity.
My can was #300 of 334.

- Name : Gravedigger’s Biscuits
- Brewery: Turning Point Brew Co, Knaresborough, North Yorkshire
- Hops : Hops not mentioned on ingredients listing
- Grain : Extra Pale, Low Colour Chocolate, Biscuit, Brown Crystal 150 and Special B malts, Torrified Barley and wheat
- Aroma : Coffee with hints of chocolate, sweetness of a dark caramel and rum spirit
- Appearance : Jet black, with no light bleed and a brown head
- Body : Full bodied, medium carbonated but with no head retention
- Taste : Starts with a sweetness backed up with rum spirit, which is followed by a coffee hit. A malty chocolate layer then makes way for a sweet vanilla finish which lingers but is surprisingly soft
- Dietary restrictions : Suitable for vegetarians
A beer that pours so black it would cause Johnny the painter off the Fast Show to have one of his breakdowns. A highly complex Imperial Stout that packs the appropriate alcoholic punch but has many subtle layers of flavour and is remarkably drinkable. I would have willingly finished another couple of cans just to confirm it was good as I thought.
An outstanding beer!
