T|E|H Christmas Advent 2022 #11 – Turning Point Brew Co – A Simple Lampoon, DIPA (8.0% ABV)

Hi there fellow beer lovers,

Another beer from the 2022 edition of the Turning Point 12 beers of Christmas. A Double IPA as it stresses on the can and at 8% it passes the strength test. Pull the tab and there is an almost overpowering aroma of fruity hops, so they certainly haven’t skimped there. So yes, they aren’t lampooning us here it is a DIPA.

  1. Name : A Simple Lampoon
  2. Brewery: Turning Point Brew Co, Knaresborough, North Yorkshire
  3. Hops : Ella (T90), Citra (T90), Simcoe (T90) and Simcoe (leaf)
  4. Grain : Extra Pale malt, Torrified oats, Torrified wheat and wheat
  5. Aroma : Strong fruitiness of hops with peach and nectarines to the fore
  6. Appearance :  A pale gold hue, rather hazy. The can was rather effervescent on opening and produced a big frothy white head
  7. Body :  Full bodied, medium carbonated with good  head retention
  8. Taste :  Soft fruit flavours with hints of peach but quite soft on the palate. The finish was very dry, slightly bitter, and somewhat lingering
  9. Dietary restrictions :  Suitable for vegans

A potent beer that is somewhat deceptive with a softness making it quite easy drinking. That said the strength of the aftertaste did overwhelm the palate somewhat. An excellent beer but I would stick at one and not follow it up straight away with a delicately flavoured beer.
