Welcome back to the Eternal Hoptimist’s,
Our NO.19, has a touch of Tonka Bean! so who better to review this one then our very own old bean John!
This one is promising to be a supercharged version of their flagship stout Tonkoko so lets see if its up to scratch

- Name : Imperial Tonkoko
- Brewery: Brew York, York
- Hops : N/A
- Grain : Pale, Flaked Barley, Crystal 150, Crystal 400, Chocolate, CaraRed, Roast Barley
- Aroma : Mild Coconut nose with lactose and a faint malt
- Appearance : Very dark in appearance with a mushroom head when poured.
- Body : Medium bodied and mild carbonation with reasonable head retention.
- Taste : Strong initial sweetness from the Tonka bean, which dulls to a coconut milky-ness and finishes with a slight malt.
- Dietary restrictions : Vegiterian friendly, Barley Lactose (Milk)
This one supplies a nice warm afterglow, making in a very good winter warmer. At 7.5% it is a little harsh on the alcohol but the spice from the Tonka bean makes it an interesting tipple. For me I am not super keen on the flavours, but don’t let that put you off, as I am sure some of you will love this one!
Our overall rating: 3.6/ 5.0
