T|E|H Christmas Advent 2022 #30- Brew York – State of Mind Edition/2022, BA Dradis, Rye Whiskey & Buffalo Trace Bourbon (12% ABV)

Welcome back to the Eternal Hoptimist’s,

Christmas is over for another year, but with our ‘Wilde’ new Year coming ever closer John and Sam thought they would crack out the big guns to get them in the mood!

Today we will be looking at both of the BA Dradis barrel aged stouts by BrewYork, and at 12% each… a nap may be in order afterwards!

First Up is John with the Rye Whiskey version.

1. Name : State of Mind Edition/2022. BA Dradis, Rye Whiskey

2. Brewery: Brew York (York, England)

3. Hops :  Not stated

4. Grain :  Not stated

5. Aroma : Strong aromas of whiskey, Rye and Molasses

6. Appearance : Black like tar, with a brown head when poured

7. Body : Velvety smooth, not massive carbonation, no head retention but thick in the mouth.

8. Taste :  A rye sweetness with a deep whiskey heart, not overpowering but it had some oomph that warms the heart.

This is definitely one of he best beers i have had period, well done BrewYork. How you can make a beer with this much alcohol in without it being to overpowering and harsh is truly an art. This is a true quaffing stout, just to emphasize.. you may have realized i really liked this one.

Our overall rating: 4.4/ 5.0

Note from Sam: The Rye one was good there is no doubt about it, but read on if you want to see the pinnacle of the BA Draidis so far!..

5. Aroma : Strong bourbon notes, chocolate with a cheeky little hint of spice.

6. Appearance :  Black as night, no head

7. Body : Medium bodied, silky smooth, well carbonated, hugged the glass like a champ.

8. Taste :  Intense bourbon buzz, with notes of smoke chocolate, a bit of spice that puts a growing heat into yours chest.

This is the kind of stout that sticks to your ribs, I also think its the kind that would make an amazing glaze for ribs if you were so inclined. As a beer it was long and sultry, definitely a sipper, this had a little more nip that the rye with the alcohol, but it was wonderful non the less!

Our overall rating: 4.5/ 5.0
