T|E|H: Our Wilde New Years Eve

We’re back again with another Wilde Child beer, this one is a Biscoff milk stout named Clique Fiesta which comes in at a very sessionable 4.8% abv.

For those of you who may have been hiding under a rock, Biscoff is a biscuit spread with a caramel flavour that is a common alternative to peanut butter and chocolate spread in several European countries and in the UK is most recognisable in the Lotus biscuits.

This is the first Biscoff flavoured beer that I have had so I have high hopes for something good and as I have said before in other reviews Wilde Child are usually pretty good at replicating flavours within their beers, so here goes.

  1. Name : Clique Fiesta

2. Brewery: Wilde Child, Leeds

3. Hops :  Not specified

4. Grain :  Barley, Oats, Yeast & Lactose

5. Aroma :  Delicate nose of chocolate caramel with nice levels of molasses and subtle spice notes.

6. Appearance : Black beer with light bleeding through the liquid. Tight one finger off white head

7. Body : Medium body, the addition of lactose into the brew brings a decent level of creaminess which is pretty good for its strength.

8. Taste : Full on chocolate caramel with nice molasses and subtle spices that bounce around the palate. This does a pretty fine job of replicating the Biscoff flavour and proves to be very moreish.

Clique Fiesta is a lower percentage version of its bigger sibling Clique Fest which came in at 8% ABV and was a collaboration with a brewery local to me, Atom (Hull). At 8% ABV that beer would be seen as an indulgence that would probably best be enjoyed in third or half measures whereas it’s younger sibling Clique Fiesta proves itself to be incredible sessionable.

Clique Fiesta has a decent nose which does not really prepare you for the delightful flavour of Biscoff, chocolate caramel, molasses and subtle cooking spices which soon attacks the tastebuds and lingers well on the palate and has you wanting another mouthful as soon as one is swallowed. Being a milk stout, the lactose does a good job of adding a nice creamy flavour and decent mouthfeel with accompanies the delightful array of flavours very well indeed making this a very well balanced and well-rounded sessionable beer.

At no point drinking Clique Fiesta did I feel that the chocolate caramel flavours became overpowering which is the sign of a very well brewed beer. Hats off to Wilde Child, they have done a fine job with this one and I enjoyed this one a lot!
