T|E|H: Our Wilde New Years Eve

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Wilde Child are certainly not afraid to experiment with their flavours! In this review we take a look at their milkshake pale named Hot Fuzz which is described as a raspberry cream doughnut pale.

This certainly sounds interesting but I will admit I was pretty sceptical before opening the can as to whether this one would be ultra-sweet, a tad artificial or would they indeed be able to pull it off and leave me with a warm fuzzy feeling…..Let’s see!

1. Name : Hot Fuzz

2. Brewery: Wilde Child, Leeds

3. Hops :  Not specified

4. Grain :  Barley, Wheat, Oats & Lactose

5. Aroma : Sweet, creamy aroma with notes of subtle raspberry cutting through.

6. Appearance : Pours a hazy light amber with a two finger fluffy white head that leaves a nice lacing on the glass.

7. Body : Lightly carbonated , medium bodied, nice mouthfeel with the addition of lactose into the brew.

8. Taste :  Has a nice creamy taste with the raspberry concentrate cutting through well. This does not overpower the taste, it adds to proceedings well. Leaves a nice, creamy, yet lingering slight tartness on the palate.

I was sceptical with this one before I opened the can but this scepticism soon passed as I took my first mouthful. Although Wilde Child is open to the fact that this uses raspberry concentrate it does not overpower to the point of coming across as artificial. Whilst you can tell that the beer does not use natural raspberries the overall balance of lactose and raspberry concentrate works well with a nice creamy mouthfeel, raspberry flavour cutting through well and a pleasant slight tartness at the back end.

This beer is incredibly easy drinking but is probably one to enjoy in limited quantities as I could imagine that after a pint or two it could be a little too much. Personally I think that this is a pretty good beer and does a decent job of replicating the raspberry cream doughnut flavours.

Whilst it did not leave me with the warm, fuzzy feeling I was hoping for, it did leave me with a real sense of enjoyment at what I had just drunk. Overall I would say that this is yet another hit for Wilde Child and one that you should certainly keep an eye out for.
