Pistonhead – Kustom Lager non-alcoholic (0.0% ABV)

This is the non-alcoholic version of a lager that has been around in the UK for a while and can be found in Christmas gift packs. The original version is perfectly ok but there are a great many better lagers on the market.

  1. Name : Kustom Lager
  2. Brewery: Brutal Brewing, Sweden
  3. Hops : Spalter Select, Magnum and Perle
  4. Grain : Munchener and Pilsner malt
  5. Aroma : Doughy/bready with the merest hint of hops
  6. Appearance : Pale straw, clear with a white head
  7. Body : Thin, well carbonated with some head retention
  8. Taste : A crisp lager with some bready/biscuity flavour. Hops kick in at the finish which ends with a little bitterness
  9. Dietary restrictions : None claimed

Thin as might be expected for a lager but lacks the sourness of some alcohol-free beers. Perfectly reasonable, better than the original Kaliber beer, but there are many better examples on the market.

Good to see the hops and malts listed on the can which gives at least some indication that the brewer takes pride in its product, which is only right if zero alcohol beers are to become a premium product rather than just a soft drink alternative.
