Fierce – People Like Buns, Cinnamon Bun Ale (6.5% ABV)

It would be fair to say that people really do like buns and often bun type flavours in their beer. This one however is slightly different from the norm as Fierce Beer has released a cinnamon bun ale, yes that’s right cinnamon!

Over the course of my beer drinking history I have had a fair few herbed/spiced beers with mixed results if I am honest, so I will admit that this is one I approached with both curiosity and a touch of apprehension.

1. Name : People Like Buns

2. Brewery: Fierce Beer, Aberdeen, Scotland

3. Hops :  Not specified

4. Grain :  Barley, Wheat & Oats

5. Aroma : Initial dried fruit aroma with subtle cinnamon spices cutting through.

6. Appearance : Pours a dark amber/light brown colour with a quickly dissipating 1-2 finger off white head

7. Body : Medium body with a nice mouthfeel

8. Taste:  The aroma gives a lot away as to what to expect with the taste. Starts out with a quite pleasant, dried fruit taste, slight bitterness before the cinnamon taste creeps onto the palate and lingers well in the mouth.

I honestly did not know what to expect with Fierce Beer’s People Like Buns and more picked this one up out of curiosity and I am glad I did as it really does work!

The beer looks nice in the glass and has a pleasant rather than ground-breaking aroma but it is in the taste where this one really shines. The initial dried fruit taste is a nice curtain raiser for the main event which is the delightful lingering cinnamon taste which really does add to the beer rather than dominating proceedings.  This leaves a very pleasant lingering taste on the pallet and proves to be quite moreish.

I will be honest and wasn’t really blown away with the last Fierce Beer that I reviewed (Have A Break) but this one is so much better. It certainly exceeded my expectations and is one that I would recommend for anyone looking to try something a little different.
