Gweilo –Hidden Identity IPA (6.8% ABV)

Another beer brewed in the UK for Gweilo International. The previous ones I have sampled have been brewed by Vocation Brewery in Hebden Bridge and have been good.

This one come from Allendale Brew Co in Hexam so how will it match up?

The can promises a beer heavy on hops with them added to the whirlpool and dry hopping, though which hops used are not clear.

  1. Name : Hidden Identity
  2. Brewery: Brewed for Gweilo by Allendale Brew Company Ltd, Hexham, Northumberland
  3. Hops : Not specified – ‘can you guess which varieties we’ve used?’ it asks on the can
  4. Grain :  Barley, wheat and oats
  5. Aroma : Strong fresh hops and tropical fruits
  6. Appearance : Amber, cloudy with a white head
  7. Body :  Full bodied, medium carbonation with some head retention
  8. Taste : A tropical fruit hit, dryish with a bitter finish

It’s a can I have had for a while, so I was concerned about hop fade, but needn’t have worried because they came through good and strong. A nice punchy IPA brewed at good strength and well worth trying again.

Our overall rating: 3.7/ 5.0
