Brewdog x Brasserie Sainte Cru – Interceptor Maibock (6.8% ABV)

This is a beer from the Brewdog and Friends pack for May 2022, appropriately enough seeing as the beer is a Maibock. Having worked a little in Europe one of the things I appreciated was the traditions still upheld, such as the appreciation of the asparagus season where every restaurant seemed to have their own favourite dish on the menu, something that passes us by. So, the idea of a special beer brewed just for a month or so each summer (in this case May) really appeals to me.

“Brasserie Sainte Cru is a French brewery with a big love for American style beers inspired by controversial music & art, driven by a spirit of contradiction.”

Can a Scottish brewery in collaboration with a French one produce a perfect German Maibock?

  3. Hops : Ariana and Hallertau Blanc
  4. Grain :  Munich, Vienna and Pilsner Malt
  5. Aroma : Green fruits, gooseberry
  6. Appearance : Golden, slightly hazy with a white head
  7. Body :  Full bodied, well carbonated but head retention was poor
  8. Taste : Slightly sweet, fruity and malty to start, followed by a hoppy bitter finish

I am no expert on German beers but being a Yorkshireman I know what I like (and I like what I know) and I found this to be a cracking beer. Meant to be a crossover beer between spring and summer it had the full bodied maltiness of a bock but lightened and lifted with the sweetness and crispness of a Helles style lager.
