Magic Rock Brewing – Fruitfulness Elderberry, Blackberry & Juniper Berliner Weisse (4.8% ABV)

Hello, and welcome back to the Eternal Hoptimists,

Another traditional style of beer we are seeing more of in the supermarket. This one caught my eye with elderberry and juniper in the flavourings marking it down as a little unusual.

  1. Name : Fruitfulness
  2. Brewery: Magic Rock Brewing, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire
  3. Hops : Not specified
  4. Grain :  Barley and wheat
  5. Aroma : Dark fruits with a sour tang
  6. Appearance : Dark red almost purple colour, some light bleed when held to a lamp, cloudy with a pink head
  7. Body :  Full bodied, well carbonated but with no head retention
  8. Taste : Initially sour with a strong blackberry flavour masking the more subtle elderberry and juniper. Some dryness and distinctly tart finish

Ticks all the boxes for a good Berliner Weisse, but I was left a little disappointed that the flavour profile was a little unbalance with the blackberry masking the more subtle ingredients. A nice beer overall though.

Peter’s overall rating: 3.5/ 5.0
