Hello and welcome back to the Eternal Hoptimists,
If anyone mentions the word Radler surely the first beer that would spring to the mind of most people is Schofferhofer Grapefruit and many people describe this as a classic beer that is probably the best example of the style.
In this review we take a look at the aforementioned radler to see if it really is that good or is it one of those beers that has since been surpassed as brewing has evolved.

1. Name : Schofferhofer Grapefruit
2. Brewery: Radeberger Gruppe (Frankfurt, Germany)
3. Hops : Beer contains hop extract
4. Grain : Wheat & Barley
5. Aroma : Nice zesty grapefruit aroma with the wheat cutting through nicely giving off a very appealing nose.
6. Appearance : Pours orange, and actually looks like a grapefruit juice in the glass with a one finger dissipating white head.
7. Body : As expected a light body making this very easy drinking.
8. Taste : Zesty, punchy grapefruit with the hefeweizen characteristics balancing this well, creating a moreish and thirst quenching beer.
What I failed to mention in the introduction to this review is that Schofferhofer Grapefruit is in fact a Hefeweizen (Wheat Beer) and despite the low strength pulls off the Hefeweizen characteristics well. The beer looks appealing in the glass and has a nice zesty grapefruit aroma with the wheat cutting through giving off a very balanced and appealing nose.
In terms of taste Schofferhofer can only be described as a winner with a very refreshing grapefruit flavour dominating proceedings making this pretty appealing. At 2.5% abv this is a nice beer to start a session on, to have as an anytime of day beer of one that is a perfect thirst quencher that would be ideal in the summer months.
I started this review by asking if this has been surpassed or indeed if it still stands up well today. Whilst the answer to the former is yes, it has been surpassed as brewing has evolved but that is pretty much expected, however it still stands up well and is a rather enjoyable radler that I am more than happy to drink.
Our overall rating: 3.6/ 5.0
