T|E|H – On Tour – La Palma: Campo Futbol Adelino Torres & Salinas Marinas de Fuencaliente.

Salinas Marinas de Fuencaliente

All-inclusive certainly makes you pile on the pounds so to counter act all these additional calories I decided to walk from the village on a trek past two dormant volcanoes down to the tip of the Island where there are two light houses (old and new) and some salt pans which still operate in the traditional way. A very scenic route, quite strenuous at times and an interesting destination.

I timed it well and was able to watch them skim the crystals, the salt blossom, off the surface of the ponds using a cedazo. Artisans at work, and I bet it is quite thirsty work. Well there is a swanky café come restaurant on site so it would be amiss not to check if they had any beer offerings.

Cerveza Gara

This is the beer that was on draught, but I was not able to discover too much about it other than from a microbrewery on the Island. It seemed to be an IPA style but with a twist an ABV probably 5-6%.

Appearance: Hazy with a brief white head
Body: Medium bodied and medium carbonated
Taste: Citrusy, but more of a subtle lemon with a slightly astringent edge. Some hoppy bitterness in the finish

A lovely quirky little number, one where you take a sip and think I wasn’t expecting that. Not a beer to drink in quantity but certainly one to look out for

Peters Score: 3.7/ 5.0
