The Bars of La Palma
There were no bars local to the hotel so that meant a bus ride to the local village of Island capital if I wanted to sample more variety. Working on the basis I would be more likely to find craft beer in the Capital I had a morning out in Santa Cruz ad La Palma and turned beer hunter.
After a good walk around, I came across a bar with outside tables with a flyer advertising Cerveza Artesanas Domus which were reasonably priced and looked inviting. Six different beers on offer, one being a 500ml barley wine at €10.95, not brewed locally but at a craft brewery based in Toledo in Southern Spain. I sample three of these and each was served with frozen branded glass.
Regia 4.8% €3.30 330ml

Appearance: Amber and quite hazy
Body: Medium bodied and carbonated
Taste: A malty base followed by a hoppy bitter bite to the finish
A nice balance between the malt and hops makes this a decent standard pale ale.
Peters Score: 3.7/ 5.0

Pangea 7.7% €3.70 330ml

Appearance: Amber and quite hazy
Body: Full bodied, medium carbonated with a smooth mouthfeel
Taste: Quite mellow and sweet, some maltiness comes through but lacking in hop flavours. There is also something unusual in the profile, hints of spice but not hot or aggressive
A rather interesting and odd beer. It is a triple beer that is a collaboration with a Brazil craft brewer and incorporates saffron and pink pepper. combines It certainly has the triple alcoholic punch, but the flavours are a lot more subtle than the standard Belgian-style triple. Lovely as a single beer, not one to drink too much of but one to keep your eyes open for.
Peters Score: 3.9 / 5.0

Santo Tomé 6.1% €3.70 330ml

Appearance: An appealing chestnut red hue with a little haze
Body: Full bodied, medium/light carbonated
Taste: Fruity and malty with a sweetness to the finish
An Abbey-style double that demands respect.
Peters Score: 3.9/ 5.0
