Welcome Back to the Eternal Hoptimists.
Today Sam is checking out another beer for our into the Mild segment, not content with just an ordinary mild he has opted to test out a double! or XX if we are using the old school measurements!
Lets dive right in and see what he thought!

1. Name : Double Dark Mild
2. Brewery: Boxcar
3. Hop: N/A
4. Grain : Barley & Oats
5. Aroma : Strong scent of a traditional mild, with heavy malts, muscovado sugar, and a little figgyness.
6. Appearance : Very dark, with a slight red tinge around the edges when held to the light, and a open white head when pored.
7. Body : Thin to medium bodied, with good carbonation and ok head retention.
8. Taste : Surprisingly fresh to start, with a mix of malts morphing to a stoned fruit treacleness giving it an almost sweet tar like finish.
This one had a odd soft silkiness to it which harshened towards the end, it was a good mild, but certainly wasn’t rocking the boat. Very traditional.
Our overall rating: 3.4/ 5.0
