Welcome Back to the Eternal Hoptimist.
Sam has been out and about again on another walking holiday with Kayla. This time they went up to Alnwick, her face was quite the picture when Sam dropped that there wasnt just one, but two breweries in the area!
This is one of three beers brewed by Alnwick Brewery on behalf of The Holy Island Brewing co, the remaining two will be following along shortly!
Who is St. Aidan
St. Aidan was a humble Celtic monk, who, under the patronage of King Oswald of Northumbria travelled from Iona (an Island in the Inner Hebrides, Scotland) to establish a monastery on the tidal Island of Lindisfarne in 635AD.
Known for his humility, love of animals and renowned for his care and miraculous deeds. One of his legacies and that of St Cuthbert who was to follow him was Lindisfarne earning the title; “Holy Island”
But what about the Beer?!

1. Name : St Aiden
2. Brewery: Alnwick Brewery Co X The Holy Island Brewing co
3. Hop: N/A
4. Grain : Malted Barley
5. Aroma : Traditional hoppy ale with a touch of Orange
6. Appearance : Clear golden amber with a tight white head when poured
7. Body : Medium bodied, well carbonated with a decent head retention.
8. Taste : A very refreshing easy drinking hop base with a citrus and orange wash.
This was a very good traditional ale. Easy drinking and moreish, a little subtle on the flavour but this level certainly suits a session on a hot summer day.
Our overall rating: 3.7/ 5.0
