Welcome Back to the Eternal Hoptimist.
This the final brew of three beers brewed by Alnwick Brewery on behalf of The Holy Island Brewing co, the final beer will be following along shortly!
Who is Hotspur?
Henry Percy, fondly known as Hotspur was born in Alnwick Castle in 1364. Bane of the Scots, it was they who christened him “Haatspore”… for his valiant, impetuosity and speed of military advance. As protector of the North he served the crown in France, Cyprus and Ireland.
Eventually though he turned against the crown over a matter of view over honour, this led to his downfall and eventual demise in the battle of Shrewsbury in 1403 (he was 39 years old). This was later to be immortalised by Shakespear in His Henry IV Part 1.
What about the beer?

1. Name : Hotspur
2. Brewery: Alnwick Brewery Co X The Holy Island Brewing co
3. Hop: Citra & Mosaic
4. Grain : Malted Barley
5. Aroma : Strong scent of Hops & Citrus.
6. Appearance : Clear Golden amber in colour with an open white head when pored.
7. Body : Medium bodied, well carbonated with okay head retention.
8. Taste : Deep bitter hoppy taste with a twist of citrus, the bitterness grows and coats the tongue giving it a dry finish.
This one was exceptionally hoppy, in comparison to the other three. I found this more akin to a modern craft IPA with a traditional twist to that of a thoroughbred traditional brew like the other two. However it was still very pleasant and I wouldn’t turn this down if offered again.
Our overall rating: 3.5/ 5.0
