Hello and welcome back to the Eternal Hoptimists,
In over ten years of drinking ales I have come across Saltaire New World on cask on several occasions however for some reason do not seem to see it in bottle all that often, and when I have, I seem to have left it on the shelves…..until now. Will this prove to have been a wise decision, or will I be kicking myself that I have left it so long?

1. Name : New World
2. Brewery: Saltaire Brewery (Shipley, West Yorkshire, England)
3. Hops : Not specified
4. Grain : Barley & Wheat
5. Aroma : Aromas of malt and red fruits with the New World hops cutting through at the back end
6. Appearance : Pours a deep copper colour with a red hue and a fluffy two finger white head
7. Body : Light to medium body with an easy drinking mouthfeel. Comes across as slightly over carbonated compared to the cask version
8. Taste : Described as a hoppy red ale and I can see this as the hops cut through the initial maltiness and red fruit flavour leaving a lingering bitterness on the palate
American Amber is a style that I do not seem to buy all that often and when I do, I usually find them enjoyable. Saltaire New World fits that billing although I must be honest in saying that there are far better beers of this style available. This is not to say that New World is a bad beer, it just comes across as pretty safe in comparison to many others in this style.
For me I much preferred New World as a cask beer than from the bottle, however it is good to see that Saltaire are bottling their core range and making them readily available. The big question is, Would I buy this again? On cask, certainly, in a bottle I quite enjoyed it but would probably look to find other beers before this. No doubt New World will have its fans, whereas my first reaction was, yeah, not bad, rather than ooohhh this is lovely.
