Hello, and welcome back to the Eternal Hoptimists,
Fans of old movies will remember the song ‘Who wants to be a millionaire’ from High Society. Celeste Holm replied ‘I don’t’ to Frank Sinatra, but I think most people now would reply yes please. After all a million pounds/dollars is worth nothing like as much as it was back in 1956.
Thankfully you don’t have to be one to drink Wild Beer’s Millionaire Milk Stout either, I picked up my can from Lidl for under £2. Caramel, chocolate, and stout what’s not to like about that!

- Name : Millionaire Milk Stout
- Brewery: Curious Brewery Ltd, Ashford, Kent
- Hops : Not specified on can (Magnum per website)
- Grain : Barley, wheat and oats
- Aroma : Sweet and caramel initially then a touch of chocolate and some roast malt
- Appearance : Black (no discernible light bleed) with a brown hued head
- Body : Full bodied with medium carbonation. Disappointing head retention considering the use of oats
- Taste : Sweetness upfront with a little nuttiness. There is a milky creaminess too from the lactose with hints of chocolate and roasted malt that linger on the palate
- Dietary restrictions : Allergens highlighted
A nicely judged dessert stout, sweetness is to be expected but there is something tempering it keeping it in check so it’s not tooth rotting. (The can suggests salted caramel).
It’s a well-balanced beer with a silky smoothness in the mouth that makes it very moreish. A beer that one can is not enough and at 4.7% why not spoil yourself, you won’t need to win the lottery to do so!
