Hello and welcome back to the Eternal Hoptimists,
Recently, my eldest daughter’s boyfriend’s parents came up from Bushey near Watford for a visit as they are big Watford Football Club fans, and they were playing Hull City. As part of their visit, they very kindly brought us a nice gift. Knowing that I am a fan of beer they brought me a gift pack from their local brewery (Tring) containing three bottles of a golden ale.
The beer in question is called Centenary ale and is a collaboration with Watford Football Club to commemorate 100 years of football played at Vicarage Road Stadium. The beer is nicely packaged and is a golden ale coming in at a sessionable 4.4% abv, let’s hope it’s good.

1. Name : Centenary Ale
2. Brewery: Tring Brewery Co (Tring, Hertfordshire)
3. Hops : First Gold
4. Grain : Barley, Malt & Yeast
5. Aroma : Clean, slightly zesty citrus aroma. On the nose you can tell that this uses English hops.
6. Appearance : Crystal clear deep golden colour with fluffy one finger white head.
7. Body : Light to medium body, easy drinking with a good mouthfeel
8. Taste : The taste delivers more than the aroma with a pleasant zesty initial taste that makes way to a sweet and slightly floral finish with notes of marmalade and a touch of spice that comes from the First Gold hops.
An oat cream IPA is not a style that you see every day so when we received our recent beers to review, I instantly jumped upon this one as it sparked my interest as soon as I saw the can. Reading more the beer is very well put together with the use of oats, lactose and five different hop varieties and I can honestly say that it all comes together well.
The beer has the appearance of a quality brew and a very appealing aroma. White Noise is one of those beers that you could easily quaff or equally savour as with each mouthful you can appreciate everything that is going on in the taste more and more.
Whilst it is very well put together and highly enjoyable, by the end of the can I just reflected upon what I had just drank and thought that perhaps it was missing that bit of oomph to make it a beer that can be considered amongst the elite. Overall, I enjoyed it, and I am certain that you will too but like myself you may look back and think that there are better beers out there.
Mark’s overall rating: 3.3/ 5.0
