Hello, and welcome back to the Eternal Hoptimists,
Welcome back to our two week showcase of all things Powder Monkey! If you missed yesterdays interview, fear not as you can check it out here.
Today we are taking a closer look at their pale wheat beer, the Mary Rose.
This one states;
“it was Inspired by visits to The Mary Rose Museum and the spices that can be found on display, this unique pale ale brings and intriguing aroma with savoury notes of cracked pepper and spice combining with bright citrus fruits.
Wheat and oats in the body of the beer lends a bready sweetness which is complemented by the savoury yeast profile.”

But we will be the judge of that! Lets see what we thought!

- Name : The Mary Rose, Pale Wheat Beer
- Brewery: Powder Monkey Brewing co, Gosport, Hampshire
- Hops : N/A
- Grain : Malted Barley (Gluten), Oats (Gluten), Wheat (Gluten)
- Aroma : Lightly spiced bread with a mellow pleasing hop scent.
- Appearance : Pale, clear straw colour with an open film head when poured.
- Body : Thin to medium bodied, really good carbonation with no head retention, but very smooth.
- Taste : A spiced and peppery mouthful that swiftly morphs to a fresh bready number with a hoppy finish.
I have to say I agree with the breweries assessment on this one. It was certainly a little different from the norm, it was a warming slice of beer that’s for sure.
One I would definitely keep my eye open for in the future.
