Powder Monkey Brewing Co – Bravo Zulu, Pilsner(4.4% ABV)

Hello and welcome back to the Eternal Hoptimists,

As part of our special feature on Powder Monkey Brewing Co I will be dipping my toes into the lagery waters for their pilsner named Bravo Zulu. For those who may be wondering where the name comes from, Bravo Zulu is a naval signal meaning well done so I am hoping that by the time I have finished this beer I will be raising my flags to say well done (or indeed Bravo Zulu) to the brewing team.

1. Name : Bravo Zulu

2. Brewery: Powder Monkey Brewing Co. (Gosport)

3. Hops : Hallertau Blanc & Tettnang

4. Grain :  Barley and wheat

5. Aroma : Very clean, zesty, crisp aroma with floral notes backed with a subtle spice. This is very appealing on the nose and invites you in.

6. Appearance : Pours crystal clear, light straw coloured with a one finger white head and good levels of carbonation.

7. Body : Light body with a clean and refreshing mouthfeel

8. Taste : Clean, crisp and zesty with light floral notes. Subtle spicy edge with a lingering bitter finish. Bravo Zulu is certainly a refreshing beer.

9. Allergens: Contains Gluten

It is not all that often that I venture into lagers but when I do I like to experiment with what is in my glass and try something new. Powder Monkey Brewing Co is a new brewery to me and so far, I have enjoyed their beers, so it was welcome to sample their pilsner Bravo Zulu and overall, I quite enjoyed trying something a little different.

Overall, I would say that Bravo Zulu is a decent effort at a pilsner from Powder Monkey and whilst I can appreciate the qualities in this beer, I can honestly say that out of the three beers that I have reviewed from this brewery this is probably the least likely that I would buy in the future. This is not to say that there is anything wrong with the beer and although I enjoyed a can, I felt that this would be a beer that I would look for in the future if I fancied a change or something refreshing rather than something for a session.
