Hello, and welcome back to the Eternal Hoptimists,
When I saw that we had this one to review I was keen to be the tester. It seems that there are a few Vienna lagers around but not so many Vienna style pale ales. Now no doubt like waiting for busses I will be flooded with examples, but for now we shall concentrate on this one.

- Name : Drop Anchor
- Brewery: Powder Monkey Brewing Co, Gosport, Hampshire
- Hops : Dry hopped with Citra and El Dorado
- Grain : Malted barley (Vienna malt) and wheat
- Aroma : Fruity, mainly pineapple and tropical fruits
- Appearance : Amber, not as dark as I thought it might be, rather hazy and produced a white head
- Body : Full bodied, medium carbonated with a little head retention
- Taste : Fruity initially, with a juicy mouthfeel, which makes way for a doughy, pastry flavour but with only a slight sweetness. The finish is a little bitter with a fruity aftertaste
- Dietary restrictions : Allergens highlighted
A nice beer, easy drinking but with some complexity. I did feel slightly disappointed and was expecting a little more malty oomph but that is probably me being too demanding. At 4.6% is the right strength and it certainly ‘ticks all the boxes’ so there’s much to recommend. Very much a beer I would enjoy again.
Peter’s overall rating: 3.7/ 5.0
