Welcome back to the Eternal Hoptimists!
Those who follow us on social media will know that Sue (John’s Wife) is often with us on our beer festival jaunts and is a silent partner in T.E.H with such comments of “Ooo I like that” and “Eugh… No!”.
Finally though, the time has come where she has decided to give us a review on this quite expensive American import that holds her name no not the Seismic.. the Sue part!
Toppling Goliath Brewing Company were founded in 2009 in Decorah, Iowa (USA) after a runaway success in home brewing. In less than a decade, Toppling Goliath has become world-renowned for IPAs and barrel-aged stouts. We now distribute in 30 states and create more than 40 beers that rotate throughout the year.
Despite us living in the UK, Sam was lucky enough to stumble upon it whilst out and about, and donated it to Sue to try, lets see what she thought!

- Name: Seismic Sue
- Brewery: Toppling Goliath Brewing Co
- Hops: Citra
- Grain: N/A
- Aroma : Hoppy Aroma with a mango/ orangey backing
- Appearance : Opaque Pineapple in colour with no head when poured.
- Body : Full bodied, almost smoothie like, with a dank juicyness and a medium cabonation.
- Taste: Quite a dry hoppy start, before a torrent of fruitiness ( Mango & Pineapple), and has a medium alcoholic burn towards the end giving it a cocktail like feel.
Not bad at all in terms of flavour, the variation between the dry and juiciness is very interesting, but its a little too strong for me and the alcohol burn put me off a little.
Sue’s overall rating: 3.1/ 5.0
