Tartarus X Rivington. The Rivington Werewolf (8% ABV)

AWOOOOOOOOOooooo.. and welcome back to the Eternal Hoptimists,

For our first BOO-ze of the Halloween special, I thought it only fitting for it to be the first Tartarus beer that Mark has ever had! So before we hand it over o him, what do you think? was it a Trick, or was it a Treat?…

For quite some time our head Hoptimist Sam has been raving about Tartarus Beers. In a recent chat I told my fellow Hoptimists that I had still never tried a Tartarus beer! Sam, being the good egg that he is managed to source us some beers from Tartarus for review.

The first one that I am about to tackle (no doubt that should say enjoy) is the wonderfully named DIPA The Rivington Werewolf that is a collaboration with a brewery that I have held in great regard for quite some time Rivington.

1. Name : The Rivington Werewolf

2. Brewery: Tartarus Beers (Leeds, England) & Rivington Brewing Co (Rivington, England)

3. Hops :  Citra, Enigma, Citra Spectrum & Enigma Spectrum

4. Grain :  Barley, Wheat & Oats

5. Aroma : Nose of tropical fruits with a lemon sherbet edge

6. Appearance : Pours a very hazy amber colour with a fluffy two finger white head

7. Body :  Thick, full body with a very full mouthfeel. This a beer to savour.

8. Taste :  The aroma gives a real clue as to what to expect with the flavour profile. Juicy tropical flavours that unlike several beers of this style never feels overpowering. This has a tremendously balanced use of flavours with the hop combination working incredibly well to create a wonderful experience in the glass.

I never doubt Sam when he tells us that something is special and based upon this beer alone, I too will be raving about Tartarus Beers in the future. The Rivington Werewolf is a tremendous collaboration with Rivington Brewing Co and comes highly recommended.

The beer itself looks great in the glass, has a wonderful aroma and a juicy, well balanced flavour profile that proves incredibly moreish. Thankfully the thick, full body allows this one to be savoured so that you can take your time to appreciate what a fantastic beer this is.

All I can say is thanks to Sam for recommending and sourcing these and thanks to the team at Tartarus (& Rivington). I most certainly cannot wait to see what the rest of my Tartarus beers are like because if they are anywhere close to being as good as The Rivington Werewolf then they will be very special indeed!
