Phantom Brewing – Forbidden Squash, Blackcurrant & Prickly Pair Sour (6.7% ABV)

Hi there fellow beer lovers,

Welcome back to the Eternal Hoptimists.

We’re back again looking in all the abandoned spooky houses on the hill to find you the spookiest of beers, and this time we stumbled across some forbidden squash in the abandoned laboratory!

There is only one investigator brave enough to try forbidden substances, but Peter was unavailable to we got Kayla to step up too the plate for this one!

  1. Name: Forbidden Squash
  2. Brewery: Phantom Brewing CO
  3. Hops: N/A
  4. Aroma :  A very strong hit of sour fruits, with a slightly perry like background.
  5. Appearance : A deep Ribena purple in colour, no visible head when poured.
  6. Body :  Smooth & Syrupy, not quite smoothie thick, but definitely more than medium bodied, with low carbonation
  7. Taste :  Initially it had a strong sour punch that makes your mouth pucker, this sweetens as you drink and the blackcurrant seeps through to a mouth-watering finish.

Essentially if you like sours, and you like Ribena (which i do) this is the Halloween beer for you. Its more akin to a sour cider than a beer, and is certainly an experience to remember. All in all, not a trick, and quite a treat!

Kayla’s Jack ‘O Rating for this one is: 4.0/ 5.0
