Lincoln Green Brewing Co – Archer (4.5% ABV)

Hello and welcome back to the Eternal Hoptimists,

Travelling aside, it is good to have family that live in different parts of the country, even more so when they have a brewery on their doorstep that you don’t come across very often. On a recent visit to my sister-in-law’s, I was presented with a selection of beers from the brewery on their doorstep, Lincoln Green.

This review is of their American IPA named Archer that follows the theme of naming their beers after things associated with Robin Hood, well, they are based in Nottingham, so why not?

1. Name : Archer

2. Brewery: Lincoln Green (Nottingham)

3. Hops :  Citra, First Gold & Chinook

4. Grain :  Barley, Malt, Wheat & Yeast

5. Aroma : Light, citrus nose with hints of grapefruit. Appealing aroma that leads you in to thinking that this could be a rather quaffable beer.

6. Appearance : Pours a crystal clear straw colour with a one finger fluffy white head

7. Body : Light body with a pleasant, but slightly thin mouthfeel.

8. Taste :  Light, crisp and clean citrus notes that have an initial pleasant taste on the palate. Hints of grapefruit and lime cut through but never dominate, leading to quite a well-balanced, sessionable beer.

I’ll start by saying that this is more of an APA (American Pale Ale) rather than an IPA as stated on the bottle but that is a minor thing as the beer is rather pleasant. If I had one criticism it is that the beer is a touch thin, however it is also very drinkable with a refreshing hop combination that gives off a decent flavour profile.

I can imagine Archer to be a lovely summer beer to enjoy on a warm day as it would be perfect for a daytime session or as a perfect thirst quencher. Saying this I would not be against a pint or two at any time of year as it is a solid effort from Lincoln Green. Whilst Archer will not blow you away it is certainly a beer that I would be happy to drink again, and I look forward to my other two beers that I have from this brewery.
