Tartarus Beers. Rearea (6.3% ABV)

Hello and welcome back to the Eternal Hoptimists,

Here we are, back with another beer from Tartarus Beers, only this time something a little different. Today’s beer that we will be looking at is a fabulous sounding strawberry, lime and coconut sour named Rearea.

For those wondering about the name, Rearea is the goddess of joy in Tahitian mythology so I am hoping that this is a beer that will bring joy to me as I drink.

1. Name : Rearea

2. Brewery: Tartarus Beers (Leeds, England)

3. Hops :  Sabro

4. Grain :  Barley, Wheat, Oats & Lactose

5. Aroma : Wow, this certainly gives off some very fruity vibes as soon as the can is cracked. Once the beer is poured the strawberry and lime hits the nose and gives the impression of zesty and fruity sweets.

6. Appearance : Pours opaque with an orange/pink tinge and a dissipating one finger white head

7. Body :  Medium body with a very pleasant mouthfeel

8. Taste :  The strawberry and lime flavours are certainly present, giving off a nice zesty fruity flavour profile. This is well balanced with the Sabro hop that brings the coconut flavours on board. The sourness is there as it hits the palate and proves lip smacking, this soon passes and makes way to the full fruit flavours rather than a lingering sourness.

Well, what can I say other than Rearea certainly brought joy to my Sunday afternoon as I poured this into my glass. Once I took my first sip, I soon realised that this is a very pleasant beer that has a delightful flavour profile with a level of sourness that does not dominate and allows you to appreciate the strawberry, lime and clever use of Sabro.

Unlike many modern sours this is one that stays faithful to the sour beer style rather than being more of a fruit smoothie and in all honesty works and works very well. Bravo to Tartarus Beers who have proven that no matter what the style they brew quality beers, and I cannot wait to try more.
