Hello, and welcome back to the Eternal Hoptimists,
An imperial stout but with added cacao (husks and nibs), peanuts and banana, so there’s a lot going on flavour wise here. Lactose is also listed on the ingredients, presumably to add a creaminess but will it make it a little bit too sweet.

- Name : Imperial Stout
- Brewery: North Brewing Co, Leeds
- Hops : Not specified
- Grain : Barley and oats
- Aroma : Roasted malt, sweet with hints of banana
- Appearance : Black, with little light bleed and richly hued red-brown head
- Body : Full bodied, medium carbonated but with poor head retention
- Taste : Roasted malt with a dark treacle sweetness, then a blast of peanuts followed by an alcohol warmth. The finish is dry and lingering with a hint of dark chocolate and more peanuts
- Dietary restrictions : Allergens highlighted
Complex and multi-layered but the banana didn’t quite work for me with the peanuts being more prominent. Still, I would rather that than the artificial banana flavouring that is added to confectionary.
Potent enough as Imperial and one to be respected. Not sure I would want a second in a session as it lingered on the palate so long, not to mention it’s strength.
Peter’s overall rating: 3.8/ 5.0
