Hello and welcome back to the Eternal Hoptimists,
What’s cooler than being cool? No good asking an almost 50-year-old man like me, but what I do know is an 8% abv NEIPA sounds what I would describe as cool!
It would be fair to say in recent times that Tiny Rebel have been known to brew more and more adjunct filled beers so it is refreshing to see them brewing something that follows a more traditional path. Being a long-time fan of the New England IPA style this one is right up my street. So, lets get it cooled and see if this is really cooler than cool.

1. Name : What’s Cooler Than Being Cool?
2. Brewery: Tiny Rebel (Newport, Wales)
3. Hops : Not stated
4. Grain : Barley, Wheat & Oats
5. Aroma : This is one of those beers that has that dank aroma that draws you in as you expect the flavour profile to offer something rather nice based upon the nose.
6. Appearance : Pours a hazy amber with a one finger white head.
7. Body : Extremely full bodied with a nice and juicy mouthfeel. Perhaps not as soft and pillowy as some NEIPA’s but very nice nonetheless
8. Taste : Light tropical and citrus notes with a punchy hop presence backed by a strong alcohol presence. This has a dangerously moreish flavour profile and at 8% abv you should savour every mouthful and treat this with respect.
9. Allergens: Cereals containing gluten
Cooler than cool? Well, it’s certainly cool alright and this is a beer that I bet all the cool kids and hipsters will love! I wouldn’t necessarily say that I fit into either of those categories, however I also love this beer, so I guess that makes me kind of cool…. right?
This is a beer that is definitely more of a double NEIPA thanks to the strong alcohol presence and powerful flavour profile that is not as soft as a standard beer of this style but that certainly does not detract from the fact that this is a quality brew.
2023 has seen the NEIPA style perhaps lose some of it’s immense popularity of the past few years but let me assure you if you were to buy What’s cooler than being cool it would certainly prove that there is a lot of life yet in this style. Being a massive NEIPA fan I am delighted that Tiny Rebel has once again brought this beer back and proven that one of the UK’s most popular breweries is prepared to showcase what they can do with all styles of beer.
Good job Tiny Rebel, this is one cool beer indeed!
