Hello, and welcome back to the Eternal Hoptimists,
Just from the name you can tell there is an awful lot going on in this beer. Certainly a bold and adventurous approach, nobody can say this one is boring, but so many flavours can be difficult to balance right.
The label promises “… everyone’s favourite sweet treat for a dessert sour even Millie would be proud of.”

- Name : Blackberry Blueberry Blackcurrant Choc Chip Cookie Dough
- Brewery: Vault City Brewing, Edinburgh, Scotland
- Hops : Not specified
- Grain : Malted barley, wheat and oats
- Aroma : Oddly sweet yet at the same time sour, the fruit coming through was mainly blackberry
- Appearance : Dark reddish purple, like a strong glass of Ribena but opaque. Didn’t produce a head
- Body : Full bodied and low carbonated
- Taste : Sour hit to start with blackberry and blueberry prominent. Then a doughy confectionery flavour comes follows with a sweet finish. The aftertaste lingers and is a bit of a jumble, being sweet and juicy but also then sharp tangy and mouthwatering
- Dietary restrictions : Allergens specified
A very complex mouthful. A modern sour so not overpoweringly sour but still leaves no doubt.
Strong Fruity flavours hide its potency well, at 8% this is certainly not a beer to be trifled with.
Not my favourite style but even I was impressed with this one, perhaps one day I’ll be a true convert to sours. I did find this one to be a bit on the sickly side, probably the cookie dough flavours, so I would be unlikely to have more than a couple. Definitely one to look out for and one I would try again.
