Hello, and welcome back to the Eternal Hoptimists,
What’s This, a dark from Merakai?!?.. Stand back lads I’ve has got this one! (Sam). This one promises Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee, Cocoa Fino de Aroma Columbian Chocolate and grade A 100% Canadian Maple Syrup, not to mention its been barrel aged it for 15 months.
So obviously this is going to be terrible.. I will have to drink all 4 bottles myself… However will I cope!

- Name : Barrel Aged Serious Gourmet Stout
- Brewery: Merakai Brewing Co.
- Hops : N/A
- Grain : N/A
- Aroma : Notes coffee with a sweet maple and a cheeky smokey oak backing
- Appearance : Dark in appearance with a tight slightly off white head when poured
- Body : Medium to full bodied, good level of carbonation with ok head retention
- Taste : A wash of warming milky mocha coffee followed by a sharp sweetness from the from the maple which then mellowed into a bourbon like draw with a catch of woody oakyness to finish, my god it is outstanding!
It pains me that I had to share this one with some of the lads when they were round. they eyed it suspiciously and really struggled with the wax seals, they even went as far as to say “this better be bloody worth it Sam” but when they got them open, there was nothing but stunned silence, it was just that good.
Every mouthful was ever so slightly different as our taste buds bombarded with the complex flavours. it really was truly Outstanding!
I just wish I had more!!
Sam’s overall rating: 4.4/ 5.0
